The bestest thing about the internet (besides the voyeuristic leanings and 24 hour shopping ) is my ability to learn new things all the flip, flappin' jackin' time. I am always so excited when that happens and it sometimes happens multiple times in one day which is glorious. I learned all my beloved computer programs from relentless Googling and now can add 'designer' to my resume. I can knit, crochet, sew, bake, cook, decoupage and then some. I have re-tiled my bathroom floor, replaced my bathroom sink, built myself a coffee table and re-finished my hardwood floors all learned from the world wide web.
One of the things I am most grateful for is the opportunity to see how others get things done especially creatively, since the creative process can be such a solo expedition it's exciting for me to be able to peek into others worlds. I love to see beginning sketches, material bought, screens made, layers in Photoshop shown. Whatever you have to offer, I am probably up for the eyeballin'. I thought I would show some of the things I have been working on this weekend. Why I wanted to show some of the w.i.p's. is to show that not everything makes it into the shop, if you are running a shop it's easy to get into that mindset that if you are making something it should be put up in the shop, sometimes you have to just make things because it makes you happy. I try to do something creative everyday, I don't take it for granted and am always up for the challenge of adding a new technique to my bag 'o tricks...
This was an idea for a 'make love, not war' print. I am still not settled on the pistols, the color (I liked the idea of the bubble gum pink as the field for the love guns), whether or not to add the typographical element and if so what font to use, etc, etc. You see where this process can become brain aching? But in a weird way also really satisfying?
I generally like how this turned out, it was getting rough doing the damn shading on the egg let me tell ya. The tone-on-tone was about as hard as working on my albino giraffe project. I am not crazy about the font and font color and I tried about a conservative one zillion variations so I have decided to step away from it for a second and come back to it when I don't want to throw the computer out the window. I figured this would go under the motivational poster category along with 'hammer time' or end up a sweet cardlette in the Bella Bella shop. Side note, as I was working on this I never gave much thought to the saying think about it and get back to me if you aren't grossed out. I'll choose to remember it the old fashioned way...
This is the elusive winged pig, you know the whole 'when pigs fly?" Isn't that the saying? This is part of my 'Cabinette Curieux' series, which has inspired me to no end. The animals just get more and more bizarre in my brain as the days go by and there is just not enough time on the weekend to fill my curious cabinet. This is a scan of a print I was checking out the color on, I think it's sufficiently 'fleshy' peachy-pink (technical term). The eye needs work, I think she looks a little sinister, I need to soften that up a bit and make her (or him I suppose), a little more doe like.
I like the 'idea' of this but it's off to me, thoughts? Again it's a scan, the splotches are from my Fancy dropping water on the computer keyboard thus getting my test print above. I actually think they add a nice element, but the keyboard didn't make it.
I am a total lurker so please share any links you may have to your or other random peeps creative process, I am always up for the looksy....
