I wanted to start this Monday with a bang. I wanted to make you happy and get you whatever your lil' hearts desire and if I couldn't do that than I wanted to ply you with things you may not need but would be happy to have. So, I was delighted when the lovely Shelly Bronson Kuzniarek of French press--a boutique letterpress design studio in New York contacted me. I told her I would be happy to write about her studio, if she would be so kind as give away one of her works to one of my pretties. I don't know if that request is considered unethical journalism or not, but I promise I would never ask someone for a freebie for you if it was poo poo, so in that respect it's ethical right? French Press by the way is such a sweet name and from what I garner from the photographs it looks like a sweet little operation to boot(insert low whistle here). The French pressers use a 1921 Chandler & Price
Platen press and 1960's Vandercook 4T Proof Press, everything is hand-fed with love and espresso in their studio (I took creative license with the coffee reference, thank you very much).
The violet beauty above could be yours for the taking. A typographical masterpiece, ready for your abode.
The great thing about the FP studio is they try to make letterpress accessible for those special printing needs such as wedding invites, your dream business cards, your new addition etc. They have a tiered pricing system so your letterpress dreams can become reality (minimum is only 50 pieces!). I work with a lot of printers and basically at the end of the day you want someone that can read your mind, someone that can hold your hand, be kind, not treat you like a number and know that this is a splurge, an indulgence a maybe once in a lifetime affair, that you want to enjoy the process as much as the final results. I am thinking that French Press is one of those types of printers that understands your infinity for this lost art and will be there for you when you need them most(for printing that is, you just hop on over here to the blahg when you need an ear, shoulder and to feel better 'bout yourself. I've got your back.)
I will announce the winner of the above print (and get you the size) on Wednesday. To enter to win:
Give me a reason why you want this print, or why you love Mondays, or a good joke or a good tip or two and speaking of winning the 'World of Interiors' went to Jackie of Sweetie Pie Pumpkin Noodle...
