AW SHUCKS...

It's Monday.  You know how I feel about Monday's dontcha?  The only thing that gets me out of bed is the knowledge that there are baby animals in the world.  I like baby animals.  As you may know I was in Vegas last week, so I could not get to a computer to add my 2 cents and thank you for all the amazing comments you left about my whale project.  Vegas, doesn't have internet, sheesh they barely have electricity there--I jest.  Your comments meant so much, do not believe the people that say that the internet makes people anti-social.  Without your kind words I may have eaten myself into another time zone.  I was dejected, frustrated and felt lousy. Heck, who am I kidding? I would have eaten like that any way (vacation food doesn't count, that's diet 101).  I made this rather cheesy panda for you because I am too tired to do anything else, trust me I had big ideas for a download and perhaps I can do that tomorrow but for today you are stuck with a cheesy panda graphic. I just wanted to thank you, it was really kind and even though this looks like something you might buy from a car wash gift shop, the sentiment is completely sincere...

OKAY, PULLED OUT HIS TEETHE...

Okay, is this less scary?  I need to work on some clean up, but I pulled my poor whales' teethe out, added shadow to the eye (which is the first time I realized why they named the cosmetic eyeshadow, I get it now!) and made him 'smile' a bit more.  This was supposed to be a fun project.  I am cranky now.  I'm not doing custom works of art any more. Done.  From now on if I have something for sale you must like it as is.  Anyone else have this epiphany with their design career?

I am so upset now for altering my whale! I tried this idea below as well, it's not quite done but just so you can get the gist, which do you prefer?

I have to say I really wanted to do this project because I have been obsessed with 'Where the wild things are' since I was a wee lass. This reminded me of it and I was enjoying the possibilities of a little boys wild imagination growing up with this piece made just for him.  I think it's incredible to be able to have something that can foster creativity and not just be decor du jour, such an amazing gift.  I'm not talking just my work (oh, gosh no, we're lucky I get up in the a.m.) but any of the talented artists out there that create with the idea of magical possibility.  I am loving Emily of Black Apple's stories of the Odd Fellow Orphanage, I just want the whole concept to come in one tome to pour over and over....

It's not quite finished yet, but the client that said they 'loved everything you do," well thinks the whale looks scary.  Do you? I thought he looked like he was smiling but I am delusional so who knows?  Maybe I can take down the teethe? Let me know and if you have suggestions I am a little open to feedback (but be constructive, I am sensitive)...

I HEART PAPER BOATS...

I have been working on a commission for a new baby boy, a piece of artwork to grace a Brooklyn carriage house wall that houses a nursery for a darling little bub.  The request?  Vintage ocean inspired, perhaps a ship? the client mused.  Normally, I would turn this down.  I am busy and tired but the client happened to be someone fabulous and that could hire ANYONE to do anything and she remarked, "I just love everything you do and I need something unique, special and better than what everyone else is gifting the baby, besides he has too many clothes."  Note, if you want a tired (cranky) creative person to do something for you lavish them with compliments (and be fabulous). Second part is a little harder than the first.  I know that the parents love vintage but with their unique modern take, clean vintage if you will.  I had many ideas and started sketching out a concept yesterday that I felt needed a paper boat presence.  The problem is I needed to look for a paper boat to make sure I was accurate (well, somewhat) I did a Google search and hit upon a plethora of fun paper boat inspired items that I thought might bring a smile to your pretty face....

Gah, how cuuute is this?  A paper boat salad set?  I think this may get your kids to eat greens, no?  I know I wouldn't mind a little arugula salad in this...

I DYED...

My hair was starting to look a little brassy, which is not flattering.  My hairdresser just moved salons, hooray for her, boo for me.  To dye one's tresses with her now involves selling of ones organs to afford.  I opted out and decided I could do this on my own.  I bought the stuff above because it looked the least messy-I hate to see what kind of disaster I could of created if I opted for the 'messy' kind.  My white bathroom is now a dingy gray.  My hair?  It prompted Ace to remark, "I've never dated a girl with black hair before'.  My hair was supposed to be a dark brown, double espresso or some such as the description lead me to believe.  It lied.  I look like Elvira.  I mean Elivira looks MUCH better.  I guess in my haste I didn't read that it was PERMANENT and that it wouldn't be washing out with a couple showers.  Oh well.  It does give nice coverage if you were wondering but if you don't have to sell a kidney to get your hair did, than I suggest leaving the coloring to a pro.  Just my two cents.  Any suggestions for the future for moi?  I don't think I will be able to ever afford my hair stylist again at this rate (she went all high falutin' on me). I may not only look like Elivira but if I don't get my hair cut soon I will be in the running for Morticia Adams as well.

WATERMELON FERRIS WHEEL...

It feels like the end of summer and I don't know why I am so wistful, most of my moments have been under fluorescent lights indoors, not very nostalgia producing.  The off day that I could go out and play it felt like summer in spades though.  This is from a trip to the Santa Monica pier, made specifically to capture this shot.  I unfortunately will never know how I created this image in post production because I have tried and tried and no dice (it took a long time, I know that much). It's how I wish all my images were--light, airy, dreamy.  I find that so many of my captures feel somber and I am so not somber. I used a special lens called a Lens Baby, they offer instant dreamy effects to your photo's by selective focus.  If you are in a photo rut a Lens Baby should pull you right out, you don't even have to know what the heck you're doing (trust me I don't), just find something you like, focus and shoot...

GLOBAL (HOUSE) WARMING...

I've never been much of a collector (unless you count books) but I am talking about items that have no value except for sentiment or to cluster in decorative attempts.  Lately I have found myself wanting to collect, collect, collect.  Maybe it's because I can't.  We don't have much room for anything but the basics and us. 2 humans + 2 puppies, we are at capacity in the Keebler tree house we call home. If I had more space I would want one (or a dozen) of these vintage globes.  They are priced fairly well as I stopped in a thrift shop the other day in my neighborhood and they wanted 150 bucks for one of these beauties (which weren't as beautiful as the above).  Yes, I do know that the first image is a photo by the talented Victoria Smith but with a small space, comes lack of walls to hang things. Oh well, this isn't forever (gosh, I sure hope not!). If you have space you can pick your globe up at Trampoline, I'm So Vintage, or High Street Market, to name but a few shops that have gone global...
