This is the Epson R1900 and we are going to run off into the sunset together--for reals. I have had such a hate-hate relationship with my home printers. They seem to hate me as much as I hate them. There's always something going on to drive me bonkers. I have had much success with my laser printer, although the ink for a laser cost as much as a car payment (for a very fancy car) to replace--no joke. But we aren't here to discuss the laser we are here to discuss my new love life--R1900. I had ordered the above for work and was minimally impressed with its performance, it was okay but really nothing to write home about, sheesh what was the fuss? I had been using the matte paper from Staples which I really love and makes even the worse printer seem like a champ but still the quality didn't seem any better than my $100 Epson inkjet at home, that is until a happy accident! My co-worker ordered me the supreme glossy paper instead of my matte and I was PISSED, really, I was on deadline and had to make do. Glossy is so pedestrian, everyone does glossy, matte is so refined, so I thought...You see the R1900 has something my $100 Epson does not a little secret sauce called 'Gloss Optimizer' what does it do? It drops down manna from heaven is all. It lays down even more gloss than your glossiest print and reflects light so your photo's immediately look gallery worthy. I am in such awe that printing out several hundred photo's for my presentation has become glorious instead of annoying. If you are a photographer and want to take your images to the next level in home printing I can not recomend this printer enough. Colors are near dupes of screen (go figure?) I am besides myself with joy. Yes, there is a catch (isn't there always?) the gloss optimizer doesn't last long, so you have to stock up on extras when you are using it. You do have the option of turning it off when you aren't printing glossy/glassy images.
I have only tried the two types of paper above (and of course regular 'ol copy ppaer) but I am curious to check out some of the German Hahnemuhle fine art papers because I have lost my mind with this baby. Has anyone out there tried these papers for photo's? I would really love feedback!
