You may be wondering what a candle lit table and dessert photo above has to do with all this? That was from an event I did the other night, partial reason why I have been so busy. I was there until 1a.m. (after working a 10 hour day) and my feet were bleeding BUT I was requested to be the evening's photographer. Granted it was because my boss didn't want to hire a 'real' photographer but I couldn't believe I was chosen to be the photographer for this prestigious event. There was a professional photographer there as a guest and he complimented me on my shots. A REAL MAGAZINE + CELEBRITY PHOTOGRAPHER SAID MY SHOTS WERE GREAT!!!! HELLO? Am I on an episode of the Twilight Zone?
In other good photo news, I had my photo's published in an ad in one of the bestest interior design magazines on the market! Again, it was because my boss didn't want to hire a 'real' photographer and thought my photo's were 'good enough' for the ad (I love his compliments). I wish I could share with you the ad but I will wait until I leave here. If I am going to try to relish my small victories these two things really made me so proud. Remember I hadn't even picked up a camera until my 39th birthday and didn't know a DSLR from a point and shoot not so long ago. I honestly can not believe that these two things happened in my lifetime. I am still grinning as I write this. I am so proud of myself for not giving up on a dream to learn photography (at my ahem advanced age) and having these small successes from that. I do hope that this inspires you to try something you have been putting off because you thought you were too old, too poor, too dumb (or whatever excuse you are giving yourself these days). Just try it, if you fail, you fail but if you succeed? I may still have this job under the fluorescent lights (and I am grateful for the paycheck) but I do feel closer to doing what I love soon, even if it's only an inch closer. A journey of a million miles starts with one step....
