A while back I had mentioned the Art Weekend in SF, my mean boss, uhm, my very kind and understanding boss said, 'not on your life can you have a day off', no, he said, 'sorry toots another day another dollar' or something along those lines. I was really disappointed. I hate being disappointed, ask the Fancy, sometimes he will ask if I am mad at him and I will say 'no' and then he asks, 'are you disappointed in me?' That's when he knows that things are not right in Denmark. Needless to say I was disappointed, I really, really, really wanted to go! It was three days of pure, unadulterated goodness--letterpress classes, photo 101, photoshop and Illustrator classes, silk screening class. Just a veritable creative buffet. I didn't go to San Francisco but I was able to attend Nicole Gerulat's photo 101 class (she's the 'Nicole' in 'Nicole's classes';) in Orange County. I must have really wanted to go because that meant getting on the hi-way and driving an hour out of my zipcode--gasp! That's something unheard of for me. I LOVED the class. I have long admired Nicole's photography, very clean, great light and unlike my photography it's absent of filters, textures etc (the things I use to make an image look half decent), her images are all perfection:
I am aching to take her tabletop photography class, which I feel will be so helpful when it comes time to do the product shots for Besotted Brand, I am feeling a little weak in that category and I am sure that a class with Nicole would be the solution.
As you can imagine I was thrilled when I received an email that Nicole and her co-horts the Loveland's will be in the City of Angeles for a few days in February (the 2/19-2/20) and doing a mini Art Weekend in downtown (not too far out of my zipcode). The L.A. mini Art weekend also has mini pricing, you can get into most classes for only $45! That's less than I was spending on lunch each week (before the new years resolution kicked in) which means that I have a couple dollars saved that could go towards the classes! I have currently signed up for the silk-screening class, which yes, I know the Fancy got me classes for my birthday but that was 2 years ago and it was in some guys apartment from Craigslist (don't worry there were like fifty of us), I couldn't concentrate. It will be a totally different scenario with the Art Weekend I am sure (at least that's how I am justifying it to the Fancy). I want to take a few other classes on Friday but that may not be in my cards. I am trying though, I have been working non-paid over-time and weekends and have been generally slave like, so perhaps my boss can cut me some slack and give me a couple hours off on Friday the 19th? If you have been on the fence about learning a new creative skill, this is the perfect time to dip your pinky toe into a new skill pool. I think you will be amazed by how much you can learn in such a short amount of time. Nicole's photo 101 class completely changed how I shoot, so I can't wait to find out what other life changing experience I will have while I am there.
P.S. If you won't be in any of the cities where Nicole's classes will be setting up shop, they just launched their online courses and of course their own text books. I have to say in humble my opinion that they will be worth every penny.
